Description
Between 1910 and 1918, the Guss family moved from St. Mary’s County to Lakeland by way of the District of Columbia. The family house on Lakeland Road is one of the oldest in the area. Shortly after they arrived, Cornelius and Carrie Guss bought the property from its white owners. They were one of a number of Roman Catholic families in the community and reared their children, Amos and Sadie, in that faith. (Courtesy of Anna Green)
